Acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine describes the body
as an energy-flow system, similar in concept to
Western Medicine’s nervous or blood system. Over
2000 years, the Chinese mapped the pathways (meridians)
in which energy flows along the body, accurately
recognizing electrically-sensitive acupoints which
can influence the flow. According to Chinese Medicine,
illness arises from an imbalance or a blockage
in the flow of life’s energy (Chi), and the purpose
of treatment is to remove blockages to help the
body heal.
Acupuncture uses the insertion of fine needles
into various parts of the body. The needles stimulate
acupoints to restore and balance the flow of chi,
relieve pain, and treat a variety of chronic,
acute, and degenerative conditions.
Your first visit will include a Chinese medical
examination and a questionnaire, after which the
acupuncturist will choose the most appropriate
treatment for you. Acupuncture needles are very
fine, and most people experience no pain and often
find treatments very relaxing.
